Student Council

We are the Student Council for 2025/26
What does a Student Council do?

Our Student Council is a representative structure for the students, through which they can become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and the students.

The aim of the Student Council at primary level is to provide students with greater involvement in the decision making procedures of their school and to help them learn about how democracy works. Generally two children from each class are elected by secret ballot and are appointed as representatives for their class to the council for the duration of the school year. Infant classes tend to be represented by two elected pupils from 6th Class. Children in the senior classes can run campaigns asking their fellow students to vote for them ahead of the election.

Our Student Council generally meets several times each term. These meetings are facilitated by our principal. The Student Council members collect ideas and suggestions for the agenda from each class ahead of each meeting. Suggestions are then discussed and prioritised.

Student Council News

Our Student Council has had a busy and exciting start to the year! In our very first meeting, we explored what a Student Council does and discussed the types of projects and ideas we might work on together. We also reviewed our Child Safeguarding Statement, learning about who we can speak to if we ever have any worries or concerns. As part of this, we made sure that every classroom has the statement clearly displayed so that it’s always easy for everyone to see.

After that, each council member went back to their class to gather ideas and suggestions from their classmates about what they would like to see happen in our school this term. It’s important to us that all students have a voice and that their ideas help shape the work we do.

Looking ahead, we have set some exciting goals for the year. These include making improvements to our yard and school spaces, exploring ideas around having school pets, planning fun events and trips, and continuing to make our school an even better place for everyone.

The Student Council is looking forward to a great year of teamwork, creativity, and positive change!
