GAA Coaching
Naomh Olaf GAA employs a Games Promotion Officer who works closely with Stepaside ETNS in the area in the promotion of the games and in coaching the many students in their first GAA skills. The children really enjoy learning and developing their skills.
GAA lessons are delivered on a rotational basis across our classes.
At the end of the season, the children are invited to take part in a Naomh Olaf GAA blitz.

Tag Rugby
Leinster Rugby offers a free 4 week Tag Rugby programme to our school. The programme includes tag rugby in the school building skill development and fundamental movement skills. Followed by a blitz at the end of the season, in the local rugby club against other schools taking part in the programme.

Girls’s Soccer
The girls soccer team competes in the City Division 3 league every year and it consists of 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils. The team competes in the Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown cup annually and the school has represented itself very proudly since we have started. Training is twice a
week and the season starts in February and finishes in April. The school takes part in various 9 a side and five a side competitions throughout the year also.
Boy’s Soccer
The boy’s soccer team competes in the City Division 4 league every year and it consists of 5th and 6th class pupils. The team also competes in the Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown cup. Training is every Thursday after school and the season starts in February and finishes in April. The school takes part in various 9 a side and five a side competitions throughout the year also.
ECA Hockey
Hockey is run as part of an ECA sports option by our teachers Jess and Ailish. The programme is split into a senior group which runs from October to June and a junior group which runs from February to June. The children learn all the basic hockey skills. The skills are developed throughout the terms and practiced in various games and drills. The children attending must have their own gum shield and shin-guards in order to play.
Fun, friendship, participation and teamwork is the focus of our hockey group.
Gymnastics
The school has been participating in a gymnastics program since 2020 with Mark Holland and the children have really enjoyed these lessons. It consists of six week blocks, twice a year, covering the junior and senior end of the school. The children learn to balance, roll and are guided on proper form and technique required for gymnastics. Mark brings in the equipment to the school and this has been a welcome and exciting addition.
Skipping (Léim Thart)
2nd to 6th class take part in a skipping programme led by Eoghan who teaches the children various skipping techniques for a 6 week block. The lessons are conducted through Irish and it has proved popular in the school.
The pupils get a great workout while learning Irish and these skills can be carried forward for all the children who take part in this programme.
Mixed Sports
Another after school programme is Mixed Sports where children who participate get to experience and enjoy various sports activities. This is led by two teachers Niamh and Paudie and takes place every Tuesday.
The pupils are split according to age and they play Rounders, GAA, Soccer, Basketball, Rugby, Dodgeball and Hockey to name a few.
