Term 1 is coming to an end and what an exciting term it has been! We had a wonderful Winter Concert yesterday and the pupils, parents and staff were so proud of our school. Today we walked to the post box to post some surprise winter cards to the parents after reading The Jolly Postman and The Jolly Christmas Postman. It was so exciting.
The following paragraph was published in the winter newsletter and gives a brief outline of some of the work and play that Junior Infants have enjoyed.
Term 1 has been so busy! The first day of Junior Infants seems like a distant memory now. The children have had so much fun together; learning to work and play. They have settled in well to the class routines and are becoming more independent in their learning. Learning to listen has been a big part of our classroom this term. We practise our good listening rules every day. We have enjoyed lots of shared reading and writing activities. We love our new big books and read together on the carpet every day. Learning the sound and letter relationships means the children are great at finding print in the environment and they love to point it out. We love counting and fun games in Maths. Sam, the class puppet helps us to count in class. We work at stations sometimes too. In Aistear, we have enjoyed learning through lots of different types of play. The children love to play in the role play area and have played in the school, the kitchen and the toy shop this term. In Gaeilge, the children have learnt so much vocabulary and it is great to see them using it incidentally throughout the school day. We love learning about the world around us in SESE. We are very creative and artistic. In Visual Art we have made some excellent drawings. We have learnt about mixing paint and even made 3D houses from junk and recycled materials. We love to sing in our classroom and have learnt lots of songs and drama games. In Learn Together, we have really enjoyed the themes in Term 1. We learnt about Diwali and Samhain amongst others. It has been great fun getting to know the children and watching the children grow in confidence every day; exploring and problem solving in the world around them. We can’t wait for all the exciting activities planned for 2019!
Have a lovely break everyone!
Anne Marie
