Education in Human Values(EHV)
Stepaside ETNS became a Values school 3 years ago. Since then, we have been putting a whole-school focus on Education in Human Values (EHV). This school-wide focus on human values complements our ethos as an Educate Together.
Each month we put a targeted focus on one of the 5 human values of Love, Truth, Peace, Right Action or Non-Violence. These 5 human values are universal, timeless and inherent in us all, and as such they bring unity in diversity.
Every week within every classroom the children and teachers focus on a different related sub-value such as kindness, honesty, showing love, loyalty etc. The children are encouraged to think about a time when they showed the weekly sub-value and they write or draw about it in their values copies. This simple process has proven to boost children’s self-esteem, confidence and good behaviour, along with having many positive effects within their social, personal and academic lives.
Along with the focus on a weekly value, we have monthly ‘Human Values Assemblies’ focusing on one of five main human values. Within these assemblies we sing songs relating to the values, share some values copies and discuss the sub-values from the past month.
September - Love!
Our Value for September is Love! Our sub-values are kindness, friendship and caring. All of our classes will be thinking and talking about ways that they show kindness, friendship and caring.
We will be discussing these values in class and at our monthly Values Assembly.
October - Truth!
Our Value for October is Truth! Our sub-values are honesty, determination, Self Worth and Speaking Up. All of our classes will be thinking and talking about ways that they show these values throughout the month.
We will be discussing these values in class and at our monthly Values Assembly.
November - Non-Violence!
Our Value for November is Non- Violence! Our sub-values are concern for others, service to others, care for the environment and reflection. All of our classes will be thinking and talking about ways that they show concern for others, service to others, care for the environment and reflection.

December - Peace!
Our Value for December is Peace! Our sub-values are positivity, patience and calmness. All of our classes will be thinking and talking about ways that they show positivity, patience and calmness

January - Right Action!
Our Value for January is Right Action! Our sub-values are good manners, healthy eating, healthy living and self improvement. All of our classes will be thinking and talking about ways that they show good manners, healthy eating, healthy living and self improvement.
