As part of SESE, children carried out a study on Ireland's Greatest Lighthouses. On a map, pupils pinpointed where these lighthouses are located. Children also learned about the history of lighthouses, how they were constructed and the role of the lighthouse keeper. This topic was also integrated into English. Pupils engaged in reading, comprehension and oral language activities based on lighthouses. To complete the topic and to introduce the topic of engineering, children designed and constructed their own lighthouses. Boys and girls also produced beautiful lighthouse paintings.
