September 2025
September has been an exciting start to the school year for our Senior Infants! The children have settled in wonderfully, full of curiosity and enthusiasm, ready to explore and learn.
Our classrooms have been alive with creativity. One highlight was making scarecrow art inspired by Julia Donaldson’s The Scarecrows’ Wedding. The children enjoyed bringing the story to life with their own unique designs!
We also had fun outside with an Autumn Scavenger Hunt, spotting the colours and treasures of the season while exploring the school grounds.
In Gaeilge, our theme this month was Seomra Ranga. The children enjoyed learning new words and phrases all about the classroom, helping them get familiar with their new environment while having fun with the language.
Senior Infants also began their homework routine, building new skills and developing good learning habits. We were so excited to welcome our parents in for our Class Meetings, where they could see our classrooms, our work on the walls, and all the activities we’ve been enjoying.
This month, we also started visiting the school library! Our library day is Monday, and each child can borrow one book to take home and enjoy.
It’s been a fantastic first month full of creativity, learning, and new experiences, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings!

Our classrooms were transformed into Santa's Workshops where the children wrapped presents, dressed up as Santa or elves, and used their imaginations to bring the North Pole to life. They also wrote their very own letters to Santa filled with wishes, drawings and lovely messages. We were also joined by a team of Elves on the Shelf who appeared in new places each morning and caused plenty of mischief.
We attended the Winter Fair hosted by 6th Class, which was a huge highlight. The children loved exploring the stalls, playing games and soaking up the festive atmosphere.

January 2026
January has been a busy and positive month for our Senior Infants as we settled happily back into school and began 2026.
The children have loved being back in the classroom, reconnecting with friends and getting back into routines. Although there were lots of rainy days leading to many indoor lunchtimes, there was still plenty of lovely learning and play happening each day.
In Maths, we focused on spatial awareness and explored the story of 8 in a fun and hands on way. During play, the children became estate agents, creating and selling homes, which tied in beautifully with our learning about homes and people who work in our community.
In SESE, we learned all about foxes and penguins, sparking great curiosity and discussion. This learning inspired creative work including shooting star artwork that brightened up our classroom displays.
We also enjoyed a trip to the playground when the weather allowed and took part in Teddy Meditation through an online course, helping us practise calmness, focus and wellbeing.
Our values this month were good manners, healthy eating and living, and self improvement, which were reinforced through daily activities and conversations. It has been a great start to the new year for Senior Infants.
